Primarily a studio-based show, Taken Out invovled a single person who was introduced to 30 single people of the opposite sex, who were revealed to them in the "Taken Out" arena.
The show was split into two sections, the initial selection in the studio; and the two stage date. During the course of the game; the host would present information and videos about the single person and based upon this information, the 30 people periodically decided independently if they should "Leave Their Light On" and stay in the game with the chance to date the single person or to "Turn Their Light Out" and exclude themselves from the chance to date that person.
Despite being a flop here, the format has been sold to over twenty five countries worldwide, in most countries they are mostly called under the title "Take Me Out", except for Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Denmark, Estonia, France, Hungary, Norway, South Korea, Spain, Sweden and Ukraine.
The first international country of the show was in Denmark beginning as Dagens Mand (Today's Man) for TV2 hosted by Pelle Hvenegaard in 2008. Since 2016, it currently airs on TV3 hosted by Mattias Hundeboll.
The first country to use the title of Take Me Out was in The Netherlands on RTL 5 hosted by Eddy Zoey & Jan Kooijman in 2009.
