Cash Cab (also written as Ca$h Cab as you can see the logo on the right side of this page) was based on a British format of the same name where unsuspecting passengers were offered to chance to win money by correctly answering a series of general knowledge trivia questions on their way to their destination.
Gameplay
Contestants were asked several trivia questions (mainly music questions) in various verbal, audio and video based forms for the duration of the trip. After being asked five questions, players were asked to choose "The Loot or the Boot". Contestants had the opportunity to keep "the loot" they had won to that point, or trade it all depending on how many questions they answered correctly, for what was in "the boot". Boot prizes could be worth substantially less than their current winnings. By choosing "the boot" the contestant's winnings were reset to $0 and the prize was theirs to keep, even if they used up their three strikes. On rare occasions, the host would give an opportunity to the contestant to win some money back by doing a 30-second dare relating to their substantially less value "boot" prize. Contestants were entitled to two "Shout Outs", one 30 second phone call to a friend on the phone (a "Mobile Shout-Out") or to ask someone random off the street (a "Street Shout-Out") that they were travelling on. When contestants reached their destination, they were asked if they wanted to "Double or Nothing" in which they chose to leave with what they had won, or to sit and watch a video clip and be asked an observation-based question. If they correctly answered the question, they would left with double the winnings of the trip. However, if they were wrong, they left with nothing.
Trivia
The first two seasons were filmed in Melbourne, Victoria, with the third season being based in Perth, Western Austrlia and the last two seasons based in the Gold Coast, Queensland.
